INC CONGRESS APP

The INC (International Tree Nut Council) organize every year an international congress to stimulate and facilitate sustainable growth in the global Nut and Dried Fruit Industry.

The app wants to facilitate the organization and development of the congress for the participants and event organizers, and it will be enduring in time and regardless of the city where the meeting is held.

MY ROLE

For this project I led the Product Design - User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI).

I also receive constructive feedback from others designers and developers in order to improve and get other perspectives about what I was designing.

GOAL

Design an app of a congress agenda and programme who contains also a meeting point, a live voting for the conferences, a destination guide, a venues and hotels recommendations, page of favourites, exhibitors, multimedia space, FAQ’s and awards.

APPROACH

1. Detect the problems that the previous congress app had.
2. Analysing existing Agenda Congress applications, identifying the target audience, common patterns and design flaws.
3. Designing, prototyping and testing user flows and interactions.
4. Iterating design based on feedback and creating final deliverables.

SUMMARY

Target Audience: middle-aged people with certain difficulties in using technology and who need an agenda of congress information programme quickly.
Guests to the congress.
Users of former congresses.
People with lack of time and problems to organize their trip to de congress city and their agenda.
Finally, the users appreciate the simplicity and clear hierarchy of the content on the screen, including tasks titles and descriptions.

DETECTING PROBLEMS OF THE OLD APP

The project focus was the need to redesign the look and feel, implement some new functions and improve the user experience from which several problems were detected through the analysis of interaction of the users that was made of the app during previous congresses.

To begin, some of the most important problems were listed and which were necessary to solve:

The first step when you install the app is a modal pop-up to do a questionnaire. You don’t see any information previously.
The Home is full of icons to navigate for the content and they disappear when you are in other pages, is difficult to return.
Lack of coherence and structure in the design.
Every time that the user returns to the home, the modal pop-up appears constantly.
The navigation isn’t intuitive.
There’s no hierarchy of information.
The icons are a little confusing.
The options of notifications it’s only visible when you have one.
Pages that should be incorporated into the redesign: live voting, notes, favourites,
There’s no information on the host city congress.
About page is empty.

CONTRIBUTION

It’s a complex app with a wide variety of tools, therefore, the information architecture and content structure had to be rethought to facilitate its use as much as possible. Interactions and user needs were analysed and we developed as a first step, the flow chart.

FLOW CHART

The next step in this project was to devise an effective user chart flow so that our target audience would be able to experience a simple, productive, and efficient inventory management system.

WIREFRAMES

The user interface of the app has gone through various design stages to ensure that the navigation and the user experience was fluid and simple. The app has been designed to display off an Android smartphone. The structure and design has been made to synthesizes classic principle of good visual language.

LAYOUT DETAILS

Colours

I chose to maintained the corporate colours of Brand. The light Green (#7EBA28) and the dark Green (#1A5733) and I created a colour gradient among them. I have incorporated black and grey for all typographic content.

Typography

My typography choice for the titles has been the Gilroy which is a modern, friendly Sans Serif typeface with simple geometrical forms. It provides a variety of weights and great readability on screens. Open sans have been used in the body text.

TAKEAWAYS

Working on this project, I was one more time reassured that design is an iterative process. I learned that during this process it is important not to marry with your very first idea, focus on listening to the users’ feedback, and always try to deliver a better experience.
